This RTMED Embedding Cassette is a small, perforated plastic container used in histology and pathology labs to hold, protect, and process tissue samples (e.g., biopsies) before they are sliced and examined under a microscope.

RTMED Embedding Cassette Feature and Application

1.Hold tissue securely

Keeps small or fragile tissue specimens from being lost or damaged during processing (fixation, dehydration, clearing, infiltration).

2.Allow fluid exchange

Perforations let fixatives, alcohols, xylene, and molten paraffin wax flow freely in/out, ensuring proper tissue preservation and wax infiltration.

3.Act as a mold for embedding

After processing, the tissue (inside the cassette) is placed in a mold and filled with paraffin wax. The wax hardens into a paraffin block with the cassette as a base, which is then mounted on a microtome for thin slicing.

4.Labeling & tracking

Has a smooth, often 45° slanted writing surface for pencil/marker labeling or machine printing, so each sample can be uniquely identified and tracked.

5.Storage

Paraffin blocks (with cassettes) are stored longterm for future sectioning, staining, or rediagnosis.
